Spouse: Elizabeth Martiau

Col George Reade, youngest child, born in England 25 October 1608, came in a secretarial capacity with Gov. Sir John Harvey to Jamestown, Virginia, in 1637 and for a time resided at the governor's mansion. He became the owner of large tracts of land; was first  captain, then major and later colonel in the Colonial Militia. He was acting Secretary of State of the Colony, during Richard Kemp's absence, 1637 to 1641; acting Governor 1638 and 1639; Burgess for James City County 1649 and for York County 1655 and 1656. He was appointed a member of the King's or Governor's Council of Virginia and served from 1657 to 1661. He died in October 1674 and was buried at Yorktown. His Will was admitted to probate 21 November 1674.

He married in 1641 at Yorktown, Elizabeth Martiau, who was born at Elizabeth City, Virginia. Her Will, dated 10 February 1685/6, was admitted to probate in York County Court on 24 January 1686/7. She was the eldest daughter of Capt. Nicholas Martiau, who was born in France in 1591.

Their son, Thomas Reade married Lucy Gwynne, granddaughter of Col. William Bernard.
